St. Louis – In 1994 Paul Rusesabagina was a hotel manager in Rwanda when ethnic Hutus began slaughtering their Tutsi neighbors.

The story of how he protected more than 1,200 Tutsis was the inspiration for the Academy Award-nominated film "Hotel Rwanda."

Now Rusesabagina travels around the world speaking about his experience as genocide ravaged his native country.

He'll be at Powell Symphony Hall tonight (Tuesday 11/4) at eight as part of Maryville University's St. Louis Speakers series.

Rusesabagina spoke with KWMU's Maria Hickey ahead of his visit.
