Granite City mayor says town is holding on amid recession

St. Louis – Based on recent headlines, one might think that Granite City, a blue collar town in the Metro East, has been decimated by the economy's impact on the steel industry. But that may not be true.

The St. Louis Beacon is beginning a series about Granite City today. Mary Leonard, who reports on the economy for the online news site, tells KWMU's Bill Raack that she wanted to look at how the town is dealing with the layoffs of thousands of its steel workers.
