Wal-Mart tops list of Missouri employers with workers on Medicaid

Jefferson City, Mo. – After ignoring a state mandate for more than a year, the Missouri Department of Social Services finally has published a list of employers whose workers get
Medicaid health coverage.
A 2007 Missouri law requires the department to produce a quarterly report listing each business with at least 50 employees or their family members enrolled in the federal-state insurance program for the poor. But the department previously said it was unable to do so.
It now has reversed course and released a report identifying 172 such businesses. Wal-Mart tops the list with 4,595 employee families on Medicaid. Second is Casey's General Stores, with 1,035 employee families on Medicaid. The state of Missouri was third, with 1,017 employee families on Medicaid.
