Speculation continues over future of Mizzou, Big 12

By from staff and wire reports

St. Louis – Intense speculation continues about the future of the Big 12 athletic conference and whether the University of Missouri will stay part.

On Thursday the University of Colorado left the Big 12 for the Pac-10, and Nebraska is expected to announce a move to the Big Ten today.

University of Missouri System President Gary Forsee said the board of curators is interested in what Colorado's move means for Mizzou.

"In the context of where we've been historically, 104 years of a Big 6, a Big 8, Big 12, a Missouri Valley, we have been loyal members of that conference affiliation and certainly, our interest is to watch these events unfold and be very active in assuring the Big 12, as we sit here today, is very strong as we look forward," Forsee said.

University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton said talks will continue about the university's future. The board of curators is meeting for a second day today.
