Former Senior Advisor To Obama, David Axelrod Calls Out 'Snipers' For Not Implementing ACA

David Axelrod, the former senior advisor to President Obama spoke at Webster University Friday, speaking on a variety of topics, including the Affordable Care Act.

Axelrod was a key advisor to the president during the passage of the Affordable Care Act.Axelrod used his time to take a swipe at states (like Missouri) doing their best to not implement parts of the law.

“There are still many snipers on rooftops trying to make it not work, in the form of Governors and Congressmen," Axelrod said. "But I think it’s important for the country that it succeeds.”

Although Governor Jay Nixon has lobbied heavily for the expansion of  Medicaid in Missouri as part of the Affordable Care Act, many state lawmakers oppose it and it has virtually no chance of passing this year.

In addition to being a senior advisor to the President, Axelrod was the architect of his campaign victories. He stressed the campaign's adjustments to new technologies and social media as a big reason for that success.

“If we did in 2012 only what we had done in 2008, we would not have been as successful - we might have won, but we wouldn't have been as successful," he said. "There are things that are going to happen 2016 -- technological advances that we can't imagine, that are going to impact that election.”

Axelrod says it's those tactics that separate a successful campaign from an unsuccessful one, but also emphasized the importance of having a strong message behind those tactics.
