Baby lemur of endangered species born at St. Louis Zoo

Recently, a kangaroo joey, then a rhino calfwere born at the St. Louis Zoo. Now, adding to its collection of new little residents, the latest arrival is a Coquerel’s sifaka, an endangered lemur species from Madagascar.

The baby was born at the Saint Louis Zoo’s Primate House on Jan. 9, 2011.

A Zoo press release says that the baby held onto it's mother's belly for about a month, but has recently "graduated" to riding on her back. Zookeepers are observing the infant and mother every day, and a name will be chosen once it can be determined if it’s a male or female.

The Zoo says visitors can see the sifaka family – baby, mother, father and one-year-old brother Titus -  indoors at the Primate House every day from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
