Temporary Restraining Order Denied in Medicaid Suit

Kansas City, MO – A judge has denied an advocacy group's request for a temporary restraining order, that would have kept changes to Missouri's Medicaid program from taking effect tomorrow.

That ruling today, in Jackson County Circuit Court. Missouri Protection and Advocacy Services is suing the state Department of Social Services and the state Division of Medical Services over the changes.

The group's lawsuit was filed Friday. It claims that the changes in Medicaid are unlawful, and would adversely impact about 20-thousand Missourians.

It was filed on behalf of two Medicaid clients who fear the changes will lead to a reduction in their services.

The advocacy group's attorney, Steven Mitchell, says he will now seek a preliminary injunction against the changes.
