City Drug Commissioner Resigns Over Racial Comment

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – St. Louis City's drug court commissioner resigned Thursday, two months after being accused of using the word "niggardly" in a racially offensive way.

A probation officer complained in January that Jane Geiler had referred to a black prosecutor as niggardly, which means cheap or miserly.

But the bar association that called for her resignation says she used it to mean slow or lazy.
