Jefferson City, MO – A wording problem has delayed progress in
the Legislature on a bill revising how Missouri handles child abuse and neglect cases.
The House passed the measure earlier today, sending it to the Senate.
It ran into trouble when a senator questioned language requiring private and religious schools to verify, each year, that they're eligible for a state exemption from child-care licensing.
Lawmakers plan to re-write the section, which would require the House to pass the bill again.
After that, the bill still would need Senate approval before going to the governor.
