Washington, DC – Congressman Sam Graves, of northwest Missouri, says this week's legal fight over the flow of the Missouri River shows why the federal Endangered Species Act needs an overhaul.

A federal court has ordered the water level dropped to protect endangered fish and birds. But the order has drawn opposition because lowering the river would make it too shallow for barges.

Graves Thursday said the endangered species law is holding farmers and small business owners hostage, and is drafting legislation to change that.
