SLU Settles Billing Suit for $1.8 Million
St. Louis – Saint Louis University will pay $1.8 million to settle civil litigation over billing practices for services at the university hospital and Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
The lawsuit was filed by federal whistleblowers and involved billings from January of 1994 to December of 2001.
The settlement resolves allegations that the claims were submitted to Medicare, Tricare and Medicaid for surgery and anesthesia services purported to have been provided by faculty physicians.
In fact, U.S. Attorney Ray Gruender says interns, residents and others performed the procedures.
The allegations of wrongdoing came from physicians employed by the Department of Anesthesiology.
