Ford Confirms Plan to Cut Hazelwood Shifts
Detroit, MO – Ford has confirmed that nationwide consolidation efforts will include cutting SUV production its plant in Hazelwood to just one shift next year.
Ford originally wanted to close the plant but was swayed by a package of tax incentives that state and local governments offered.
Other plants in Ohio and Michigan will close by the end of this year; a plant in New Jersey will be shut down in the first quarter of next year.
The announcement of the closings comes after the carmaker's new four-year agreement with the United Auto Workers. A company spokeswoman declined to say how many jobs will be eliminated, but added many workers will be eligible to transfer to other plants.
