MO Juvie Facilities Drawing Officials from Other States

Jefferson City, MO – Missouri's juvenile corrections facilities have been a frequent stop for officials from across the country who are looking for tips.

That's because they're considered among the nation's best. Only 6% of the 1,212 youths released in 1999 have entered an adult prison in the past four years.

The centers aim at rehabilitation instead of punishment and keep offenders in small groups. Program in Georgia and Louisiana are based on Missouri's system. Officials from Maryland, Mississippi, Illinois and other states have also toured Missouri's juvenile centers.
