St. Louis – An end to the three-week-old St. Louis-area grocery strike could come this week if union members accept a new contract proposal.

Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers local 655 will vote Friday morning at 9 at the America's Center downtown.

A federal mediator helped the union and management draft the new proposal.

Neither side is commenting, but John Arnold of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service says talks that began over the weekend went well.

"There were some very positive sessions that encouraged everyone to go forward with the process that resulted in the tentative settlement that we're announcing today," Arnold said.

Details of the new offer will not be made public until the day of the vote.
