St. Louis, MO. – St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay's car was stolen from in front of his house this week.

Police say the 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport was found abandoned by an officer.

The thief apparently exploited a weakness in the Jeep, by getting around the vehicle's locking system and then punching out the ignition and driving away.

The theft comes just a week before the mayor and St. Louis Police Chief Joe Mokwa are expected to unveil an Anti Car Theft Initiative. Last year there were 8,600 stolen vehicles reported.
