Soldier from St. Charles Found Murdered in Georgia
Columbus, Ga. – The body of a 24-year old soldier from St. Charles was found last week near his base, Fort Benning, Ga. Richard Davis had been missing since July.
Three fellow soldiers will be in court Wednesday; they had been charged with Davis's murder, but those charges were reduced to concealing the death.
A fourth suspect is awaiting extradition from California to Georgia.
Davis's parents, Lanny and Remedios Davis want to know how it is possible their son survived Iraq, only to be murdered by fellow soldiers.
On Friday, investigators acting on a tip from an informer found his body in woods near Fort Benning. He had been stabbed multiple times. Authorities believe his body was later set on fire, then moved and covered with debris.
A judge in Columbus, Georgia, will consider a motion Wednesday on whether to deny bond to the three soldiers. Prosecutors seek to revoke bonds given to Jacob Burgoyne, Mario Naverrete and Douglas Woodcoff.
Another suspect, 24-year-old Alberto Martinez, is awaiting extradition from California to Georgia.
