Springfield, Ill – A new poll suggests nearly half of Illinois voters like the way Governor Rod Blagojevich is doing his job.

Even more people say the governor generally kept his campaign promises during his first year in office.

Seven percent of people rated the governor's job performance "excellent" and 40 percent rated it "good." Thirty-three percent said he has done a "fair" job and 12 percent rated him "poor."

Fifty-eight percent of respondents said Blagojevich has kept his campaign promises and 21 percent said he hasn't.His support was highest in Chicago and southern Illinois. It was lowest in central Illinois and the Chicago suburbs.

The poll was conducted last week for Copley News Service. The margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points.

The governor's aides say they are pleased by the results.
