Illinois Lawmakers Return, Argue Over Budget

Springfield, Ill – Illinois lawmakers are back at the Capitol and bickering over the state budget.

Republican Senator Steve Rauschenberger blamed "management problems" among Democratic leaders for the state's budget problems.

Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Jim DeLeo accused downstate lawmakers of opposing Chicago projects as "pork" while supporting similar projects elsewhere.

And Republican Representative Rosemary Mulligan suggested lawmakers cannot trust Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Lawmakers are in Springfield for what is supposed to be a one-day session not related to the deadlock over a new state budget.

The spring legislative session was supposed to end May 31, but officials have not agreed on how to fill a $2.3 billion budget deficit.
