Rockaway Beach, Mo. – Creating a children's fishing lake and producing freshwater pearl are among the ideas suggested to help troubled Rockaway Beach after the defeat of a casino proposal earlier this month.
The ideas came during a meeting Thursday, in which Taney County commissioners extended an offer of help to residents.
Missouri voters rejected a constitutional amendment in the August third election that was required to get the casino project started.
Besides fishing and pearls, commissioners suggested starting a shuttle service to drive visitors between Branson and Rockaway Beach.
Residents say the ideas are nice, but they won't bring in the high-paying jobs that a casino offers.
