Illinois Bar Association to Montitor Judicial Elections
Collinsville, Ill – Illinois' biggest lawyers group announced Wednesday it will start monitoring advertisements in judicial elections.
Illinois State Bar Association President Ole Pace says a committee of lawyers and former judges will investigate complaints of inappropriate advertising in judicial elections.
Pace says if they find that an ad adversely affects the reputation or integrity of the courts, they'll ask the candidate it benefits to disavow it.
The race for a seat on the Illinois Supreme Court is particularly contentious this year.
The candidates in that race, Judge Lloyd Karmeier and Appellate Judge Gordon Maag, attended the ISBA's news conference and said they support the group's efforts.
