Chicago, Ill. –

A previously little-known board in Illinois that approves construction projects at hospitals has been the subject of controversy in recent months.

Some board members were removed this year amidst accusations they used their position to win lucrative construction contracts for their allies. That investigation continues.

This week, the governor named Glenn Poshard as the board's new chair. Poshard is a former Congressman who himself ran for governor six years ago.

Poshard also currently chairs the Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees, and he runs a foundation for children in southern Illinois with his wife, Jo.

Poshard told Illinois Public Radio's Steve Edwards that many hospitals put construction on hold during the scandal. To hear the interview, click the 'listen' icon above.
