Jefferson City, Mo. – Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Blunt has turned down an invitation to debate Democrat Claire McCaskill October 21st in Columbia, Missouri.

Spokesman John Hancock says Blunt has a long-standing commitment to spend the 21st unveiling a policy proposal.

McCaskill accepted on August 23rd.

Hancock says there's no decision on whether Blunt will take part in televised debates planned next month in St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield.

He says Blunt has committed to other debates, including some sponsored by local medical societies in Springfield, Kansas City and St. Louis.

Officials with the Greene County, Kansas City and St. Louis area medical societies say no debates are scheduled.
