Illinois – Two Illinois National Guard units are being deployed to Iraq.
Members of the 1344th Transportation Company headquartered in Cairo and East St. Louis and troops from the 1644th transportation unit out of Rock Falls will be deployed. They're currently training in Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
Captain Max Casteleyn, company commander for the 1644th, says the unit is very excited about its mission.
Cairo's Veterans of Foreign Wars post is gathering supplies to send goody baskets to the troops. Post Commander Donald Cox says they'll send the baskets when the unit gets an address.
