By Associated Press

St. Louis, MO – Striking auto mechanics in the St. Louis area have voted to reject the latest contract proposal put forth by more than 60 Missouri and Illinois car dealers. Union members voted down the proposal this morning 699 to 373.

The walkout began more than two months ago. A major issue: The creation of lower paid positions to do routine auto repair work. The strike involves about 18-hundred Machinists and Teamsters at new-car dealerships.
