Washington University Prepares for Presidential Spotlight

By Bill Raack, KWMU/Associated Press

St. Louis, MO – Washington University in St. Louis is putting the finishing touches on its staging of another presidential debate. President Bush and Democratic Senator John Kerry each inspected the debate site today, in advance of their matchup tonight. And many streets around the school are blocked off for security reasons.

Some 140 uncommitted voters have been chosen to sit in the audience -- and as many as 20 of them will pose their own questions to Bush and Kerry. A detailed screening process by the Gallup polling organization pinpointed each audience member. They are supposed to be evenly divided between "soft" Bush supporters and "soft" Kerry supporters.

KWMU will air tonight's debate live, beginning at 8 o'clock.
