St. Louis, MO – Board members on two fire protection boards in St. Louis County are no longer paying themselves twice for one gathering.
A recent Post-Dispatch investigation found 13 fire boards that pay members separately for going to open and closed meetings. Those meetings usually happen right after the other in the same night.
The West Overland and Affton boards now say they're not doing that anymore.
Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon says he's never considered open and closed meetings separate.
He also wants lawmakers to put a ban on the books to prevent fire board members from getting the extra pay.
