St. Louis Officials Promise Smooth Election

St. Louis, MO – St. Louis city election authorities say some new voting measures will help avoid the problems encountered during the 2000 general election. All voters will be listed on a signature roster that includes their last known address. Technology will also aid the process each polling site will have at least one electronic device that tracks that complete voter list.

Election board chairman Derio Gambaro says there will be more local control over issues that used to be handled downtown, "We have moved much of that process down to the precinct level, with the Palm Pilots having the entire inactive and active registered voter list, and we also have, again, the specialists to make sure that folks get ready before they even get up to the judges." Gambaro says the board expects to process 280,000 registered voters on Election Day.
