Chicago, Ill. – The candidates for President received a number of newspaper endorsements this weekend.

President Bush was endorsed by the Chicago Tribune, along with daily newspapers in Bloomington and Champaign, Ill.

The Kansas City Star endorsed Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, as did the Daily Herald in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights.

Kerry had previously received the endorsement of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The three Bush endorsements focused on the president's reaction to the Sept. 11 attacks. All three newspapers said Bush is best suited to lead the country through, as the Tribune wrote, "global perils likely to dominate the next presidency."

The Daily Herald, which has endorsed Republicans in each of the last four presidential elections, trounced Bush's record, saying the President rushed the nation to war.
