Springfield, Ill – Workers have begun installing metal detectors at the state Capitol in Springfield.
The detectors and X-ray scanning equipment are designed to make the Statehouse safer for employees and visitors. Governor Rod Blagojevich decided to have them installed after last month's fatal shooting of an unarmed Capitol security guard.
The upgrades at the Capitol's three main entrances will cost nearly $300,000.
Security guard William Wozniak died September 20th when a gunman walked into the Capitol and fired a shotgun blast into his chest.
Derek Potts, 24, is charged with murder.
