Chicago, Ill. – Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has accepted nearly $225,000 in donations from the horse-racing industry. That's despite a survey Blagojevich signed two years ago indicating he wouldn't take money from gambling interests.
Blagojevich told the Chicago Sun-Times the pledge he signed was broader than he intended and was an oversight.
The governor answered 'no' to the question: "Will you accept campaign contributions from gambling interests?"
He says he views horse-racing as a different kind of industry than casinos; the governor has not accepted any money directly from casinos that do business in Illinois.
