Crues Takes Medical Leave Amid Controversy

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – The St. Louis public school district says interim superintendent Floyd Crues is taking a medical leave of absence.

Crues did not disclose how long he will be on leave, but a district statement says it will be "for an extended period."

Crues has been at the center of a new wave of controversy in the district. Last Friday, St. Louis police were twice called to a heated meeting in which board members were reportedly discussing whether to suspend Crues for an alleged contract violation.

District insiders say Crues is on the spot for hiring executives at exorbitant salaries.

Deputy superintendent Pamela Hughes will assume Crues' duties in his absence.
