St. Louis – St. Louis County's highways director is stepping down after 12 years on the job.
Highways and traffic director J. Michael Dooley was suspended in October for allegedly sending inappropriate e-mails.
County Executive Charlie Dooley - no relation - got his resignation letter Tuesday.
But the Executive has no plans to replace him.
"We won't be looking for a highway director," Charlie Dooley said. "Garry Earls will take over that responsibility along with Public Works, who'll be the acting director for highways. But it'll be a combined management team with highways and with public works."
Dooley said the move will save the county money.
Michael Dooley's resignation is effective at the end of the year.
