Former Member Says He'll Run for School Board Again

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – Former St. Louis school board president Bill Purdy has announced he will once again run for a seat on the board.

Purdy was a high school principal for 20 years before serving 12 years on the school board.

He says he decided to run again to try to end the problems that have occurred since he left the board in April 2003. Purdy says the current four member majority never told the public of its plans to bring in a private management firm and outsource jobs.

"But once they got into office, that's precisely what they did, and I would not do that," Purdy said. "Whatever I say I'm going to do, I'm going to try to do, and I'm going to put every bit of effort I have left in me to do that."

Purdy says his first priority if elected will be to try to reverse the district's decline towards non-accreditation.
