St. Louis, MO – Westbound traffic on the Poplar Street Bridge in downtown St. Louis will be down to one lane this weekend. Workers will be replacing a support beam that cracked in September.

The right lane on part of the bridge will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Friday to early Monday morning.

"We do have a contractor on board that will make those repairs," said MO-DOT spokesman Chris Sutton, who added this type of repair is far from routine. "I know that our construction personnel have met extensively with that contractor, just to make sure that they have a good game plan in place, and to make sure that we can do the work without interrupting traffic."

In September, workers found cracks in floor beams on a section of bridge between Fourth Street and Broadway. Crews put in temporary support towers to stabilize the structure.

Sutton says work is scheduled to be done in time for Monday morning rush hour.
