St. Louis, MO – St. Louis-based May Department Stores Company could be up for sale.
The Wall Street Journal reports today (Thursday) that Federated Department Stores Incorporated is in talks about buying rival May.
The deal would create a retailer with $30 billion in combined sales and nearly 1,000 department stores (including Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Lord & Taylor and Marshall Field's).
The newspaper cites unidentified sources familiar with the talks, saying the discussions are only preliminary.
So far, officials from both chains declined to comment.
