Metro-East Officer Hurt in Wrong-Way Crash

By Ap/KWMU

South Roxana, Ill. – A Metro-East police officer had minor injuries Saturday night after he crashed into another car that was going the wrong way on Route 255.

Police say the driver of the wrong-way car - Ricky Brewington - was apparently drunk. He drove his car into an S-U-V that South Roxana, Ill. police officer James Doyle was driving.

Doyle was taken to the hospital with minor injures.

Police say Brewington, 33, of Fredickstown, Mo., entered northbound Illinois 255 in Wood River and drove south.

Doyle spotted Brewington and cut across the median hoping to intercept Brewington, but Brewington swerved around Doyle's vehicle. When Doyle tried to cut him off again, Brewington hit the front of Doyle's SUV.

Illinois State Police then arrested Brewington on DUI charges.
