St. Louis, MO. – A state senator from St. Louis wants lawmakers to forego their state-provided health care coverage.

Democrat Tim Green says it would be hypocritical to keep the insurance when the governor is proposing Medicaid cuts.

"He's recommending that people who make roughly 37-hundred dollars a year be offered Medicaid services," Green said. "Here we are, we make $30,000 a year, then why can't we support our own health insurance?"

Green says dropping coverage for lawmakers would save Missouri about $800,000.

The bill will be heard Wednesday in a senate committee.
