Limit Sought on Lobbyist Gifts

St. Louis, MO. – A St. Louis Democrat is asking state house members to place a dollar limit on gifts they receive from lobbyists.
Representative Rachel Storch says the state senate's vote this week to lift caps on such gifts was a catalyst for her bill. The legislation would place a $50 limit per gift and with a $100 annual maximum on gifts to house members.
Storch says her intent is not to lock lobbyists out of the capitol.
"This would allow those conversations to happen, but I think places very reasonable limits on either fancy dinners or gifts that could be given, and would maybe prevent any inappropriate actions from being taken," Storch said.
Currently there is no dollar limit on gifts from lobbyists to either members of the Missouri house or senate.
Lobbyists are required to disclose what they spend on lawmakers each month to the state's Ethics Commission.
