W.R. Grace Charged in Asbestos Case

By NPR

Washington – The chemical company W.R. Grace has been charged with knowingly exposing mine workers and residents of a small Montana town to asbestos.

The federal indictment charges seven current and former executives with conspiring to release the deadly substance at a mine in Libby, Mont., and then covering up the dangers.

Grace officials denied any criminal wrongdoing in a statement.

Andrew Schneider, a reporter for the Post-Dispatch first covered the Libby, Mont. asbestos matter as a reporter in Seattle. He also wrote a book about the town called An Air That Kills and spoke with NPR's Renee Montagne on Morning Edition.
