Police Try to Reach Out to Bosnian Community

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, MO –

The immigration boom that began in the early 1990's has brought some 40,000 Bosnians to the St. Louis area. The region is second only to Chicago as the nation's largest Bosnian refugee community.

As they meld more fully into civic life, the St. Louis County Police Department is trying to reach out to help them navigate their social needs.

But as KWMU's Kevin Lavery reports, the police are learning that building trust is a slow process.
