East St. Louis, Ill. – East St. Louis Deputy Police Chief Rudy McIntosh was fired Wednesday by the board that oversees the city's police department.
At issue is whether McIntosh lied about having a GED on his job application 11 years ago.
The Civil Service Commission and Board of Fire and Police Commissioners voted 2-1 to fire McIntosh. They then ordered him to turn over his police badge, pistol and other city equipment.
During the hearing, the city's personnel director said there was no evidence in McIntosh's file that he had ever presented a GED or high school diploma.
McIntosh could not attend the hearing because of an illness. But his attorney Marvin Goldenhersh says the city failed to show McIntosh acted deceitfully. He says he plans to file a lawsuit to challenge his client's firing.
