Edwardsville, Ill. – Dental and some graduate students at Southern Illinois University might soon have to pay more in tuition.
The university's Board of Trustees will hear a plan Thursday to increase tuition by 18% for SIU-Edwardsville grad students and 10% for students at SIU's Dental School in Alton.
A portion of the Alton increase would help pay for a $2.6 million expansion of a dental clinic there.
The board will vote on the tuition proposals next month.
Officials also say the increase is necessary because graduate students are requiring more resources.
Dental students currently pay $7,500 a semester; graduate students pay $160 per credit hour or $3,840 a year.
