St. Louis – The Ford Motor Company says it will appeal a $43 million verdict a Warrenton woman won Tuesday in Madison County, Ill.
Dora Jablonski sued the company after the Lincoln Town Car she and her husband were riding in exploded after being rear-ended on Interstate 270 in Illinois.
Jablonski suffered severe burns in the 2003 accident. Her husband later died.
She claimed Ford did not warn her about a flawed gas tank design.
During the crash, tools placed in the deep trunk punctured the fuel tank and caused the fire.
Ford says it was not allowed to tell jurors during the trial that the Town Car has received the government's highest crash rating and complies with modern fuel system standards.
