Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Democrats might soon have someone to run against U.S. Senator Jim Talent next year.

Columbia state Senator Chuck Graham says he's likely to challenge Talent.

Graham said his interest in running grew sharply when he learned Talent was sponsoring anti-cloning legislation in Washington. Graham helped lead the effort this year against Missouri legislation that would ban a type of stem cell research commonly known as therapeutic cloning.

Graham was paralyzed in a car crash as a teenager.

Talent was elected to the seat in 2002. Senators serve six-year terms, but Talent's win in 2002 was to serve the final four years of a term originally won in 2000 by the late Mel Carnahan. When Carnahan won, his widow Jean was picked to take the seat until the next election (in 2002).
