IDOT Looking Into Possible Mob Ties

By AP/KWMU

Chicago, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Transportation will ask the state's executive inspector general to look into a report that alleges ties between a top state worker and organized crime.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported about a Teamsters Union investigators report that contains allegations that Daniel Stefanski has ties to reputed organized crime figures and once was a bookie.

Stefanski ran Teamsters Local 726 (in Chicago) before he worked for the state.

But Stefanski's relatives insist he is clean. Stefanski, who is also a childhood friend of Gov. Rod Blagojevich, is deputy director of public and intermodal transportation for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

I-DOT spokesman Matt Vanover says the agency's Secretary Tim Martin has asked the executive inspector general to look into the matter.
