Springfield, Ill. – The head of Illinois' much-criticized Department of Central Management Services said Monday he'll stay on the job longer than expected.

Michael Rumman had previously announced his resignation and planned to leave in early May. But CMS spokeswoman Becky Carroll says Rumman will stay for an undetermined period of time.

Carroll says Rumman wants to help fix problems at the agency that were found in a state audit last week. That report found mismanagement and sloppy handling of tax dollars at the agency.

If Rumman's departure is delayed, that would also delay potentially embarrassing confirmation hearings for his replacement.
