County council to consider new proposed smoking ban

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis – Members of the St. Louis County Council will take up a revised smoking ban next week.

Councilman Kurt Odenwald proposed the controversial ban earlier this year.

It would have prohibited smoking in almost all public places in the county, including bars, restaurants, office buildings, schools and Lambert Airport.

Public hearings were held in March and April.

Odenwald has revised the bill, though. It would now allow casinos, bowling alleys and not-for-profit clubs to set up designated, separately-ventilated smoking areas.

A committee of the County Council will discuss the smoking ban in closed session on Tuesday.
