Small earthquake near Carbonale, Ill.

By AP/KWMU

Carbondale, Ill. – A small earthquake briefly shook things in southern Illinois on Monday morning, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

The tiny quake was centered near Carbondale, Ill.

The Earthquake Information Center, based in Colorado, measured the earthquake as a 2.8 magnitude, centered about 15 miles west-southwest of Carbondale.

Carbondale police spokesman Randy Mathis says he felt just one quick shake, and that was it.

The temblor came just a week after a magnitude 3.9 quake centered in western Kentucky rattled that part of the state, southern Illinois and three other states.
