McCaskill pushes for Revenue records

State Auditor Claire McCaskill.

By Missouri Public Radio.

Columbia, MO. – Missouri State Auditor Claire McCaskill says the Department of Revenue is not providing her office with requested information.

McCaskill says the Department of Revenue is refusing to hand over details about state-owned equipment at motor vehicle and drivers licensing branch offices, unless McCaskill performs a formal audit.

McCaskill says she's trying to determine whether the department merits such an audit, and the information she needs is public record.

"We should not have to beg for crumbs of information that belong to the public," McCaskill said. "That we should not have to do, and I'm hopeful we'll get a change in attitude. I want to make one thing clear, no one in this office wants private information."

The Director of the Department of Revenue, Trish Vincent says the department should not have to release information that is not directly associated with a state audit and the taxpayers should not have to foot the bill.

McCaskill says she's prepared to go to court over the issue.
