Largest road construction plan in MO history approved

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – About 800 projects totaling more than $7 billion are included in the five-year State Transportation Improvement Program.

The program includes funding for all transport modes, including rail and waterways.

MODOT spokeswoman Linda Wilson says one key project is a 12-mile stretch of Highway 40 in the city of St. Louis:

"Everypiece of pavement, every bridge, every interchange it all has to be rebuilt," Wilson said. "We've been talking about this for years, and it's finally in a funded list.

The projects are subject to approval by St. Louis regional planners. The list will be voted on later this month.
